DONKEY WALKS AT CHARNWOOD FOREST ALPACAS
At Charnwood Forest, we offer a variety of different donkey experiences, including donkey walks. You’ll get to lead one of our easy-going donkeys on a walk around our beautiful farmland and learn more about donkeys, their behaviour and their welfare, as well as getting to know your new friend on a personal level in the fresh country air! All of our donkeys have been rehomed, and love getting to meet, walk and play with our visitors in their new spacious home.

Just like our world-famous alpaca walks, Our donkey walks are a wonderful way to become familiar with these lovely animals and really get to know their personalities and behaviours, as well as learning about donkey welfare! Great for older children and adults alike, these walks are a lovely way to spend time in the great outdoors and learn more about these sweet animals in close quarters.
Our donkey walks are a 45-minute experience, so are great for those who maybe can’t manage the full 90-minute alpaca walk experience! Once you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by our team, and given a 15-minute introductory session going over health and safety, and to pair you up with the perfect donkey for you! Then, it’s time to set off! You’ll walk alongside your donkey and lead them around some of our picturesque 110-acre farm, learning about animal and donkey welfare and maybe saying a quick hello to some of our alpacas while you go!
Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing and shoes, as we do cover uneven and potentially muddy terrain in all weather conditions. We recommend you wear several layers to allow you to adapt to the weather, and to bring a waterproof jacket if you can - you never know how the English weather can change! Please bring appropriate footwear, we recommend thick walking boots, as for health and safety reasons we may not be able to allow you to participate if you are not dressed suitably. Open-toed shoes such as sandals or flip flops are not allowed.
All participants must be aged 12 or over, and we operate a one person, one donkey system. This is very important to ensure the safety of our animals. We take animal welfare incredibly seriously, and all of our donkeys are fully licenced by both qualified vets and the local council to be safe and healthy before taking part in any of our experiences.

Donkey Welfare at Charnwood Forest
The welfare of all our animals is of the utmost importance to us at Charnwood Forest, which is why all of our donkeys are rescues or rehomed from our UK beaches. We make sure all of our animals are safe and healthy before putting them into our experiences, with regular checks from the vet and licences from the local council to make sure our guests and animals are always safe, happy, healthy and comfortable. If any of our animals, including our donkeys, are unwell, stressed, injured or just a bit under the weather, we don’t put them on our experiences until they’re back to their normal friendly selves!
